The River Beneath the River expresses herself in creative ways in the myths told by Clarissa Pinkola Estés in her book, Women Who Run With the Wolves. The two dreams I had this past week of traveling by river reminded me of the significance of these stories. The river dreams were stand-outs because I was not in a boat or any other craft in the dreams. I was the craft and I paddled my “self” down the river. For Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the River Beneath the River is the Nameless Wild Woman, she is the Home Place of the Bone Woman, she is the World Between Worlds, the place for retrieving treasure to replenish oneself.
This is the message my dreams delivered to me, here at the beginning of the new season: Go to that “Home Place” where bone serves as the plumbline, bone, that innermost structure. Be fearless in the face of the Nameless and Unknown. It is in the dance with mystery that we find our true rhythm. Make yourself at home with the In Between. Liminal space is the fountain from which possibility flows. Dig deep, for that is where the treasure lies. Thank you, Clarissa.
